Police Detain Driver In Fatal Akumadan Crash
The Akumadan District Police command has detained the bus driver in the Akumadan crash that claimed the lives of six people.
Initial investigations by the police indicate that the driver ignored all warning signs, while approaching a police checkpoint and eventually ran into a stationary vehicle.
The Akumadan District Police Commander, DSP Joseph Gyasi-Agyemang, told Citi News the driver is cooperating with investigations.
“The driver reported, and we caused his arrest, and then he was detained. My crime officer sent a team to Ahenkro, and they brought him.”
DSP Gyasi-Agyemang also said the driver required some medical attention.
“He was also complaining of bodily pains, so I have directed that the investigator should escort him to the hospital for him to be taken care of.”
According to the Offinso North Police, the driver, who is yet to be identified, was on top speed as he approached a police checkpoint in Akumadan, the district capital of the Offinso North District in the Ashanti Region.
Due to the speed, he could not avoid a head-on collision with a stationary Kia Rhino Truck parked at the Police checkpoint.
The Yutong Bus he was driving then caught fire after the collision, leading to six people being burned beyond recognition while 22 others sustained varying degrees of injury.
