Chairman Wntumi was the main target in a food poisoning saga that lead to the death of former deputy Finance Minister, John Kumah, Oheneba Nana Asiedu has revealed.
Providing details on the meal Chairman Wontumi and John Kumah had shared before tragedy hit yesterday, Oheneba stated on Wontumi TV that a stranger gifted the two guinea fowl meat popularly known as ‘akonfeh’ at Mariam Hotel in Tamale.
“On 22nd October we were at Tamale to assist Dr. Bawumia over there with his campaign. When we got to Mariam Hotel, someone brought them akonfeh and they ate it. At 1am Chairman called my phone fifteen (15) times and when I returned his calls, he couldn’t pick up. I knocked his door for more than 3 minutes and when he finally came to open the door, he was in his boxer shorts and had vomited all over the place- on his bed, floor and the washroom”, Oheneba Nana Asiedu said.
He revealed that he contacted John Kumah whose hotel room was closer to Chairman Wontumi about the incident.
“John Kumah told me he only ate small portion of the meat (akonfeh) but Chairman ate a lot”, he said.
Oheneba Nana Asiedu continued that he had to quickly make an arrangement with the medical team of the vice President and a doctor and nurse turned up to treat Chairman Wontumi.
“The medical team of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia came around to treat Chairman; they gave him six (6) infusion instantly and injections. They said they suspected food poison but John Kumah thought he was fine so he wasn’t treated”, he said.
