Owusu Boakye Calls For Support To Strengthen Local Gov’t System To Bring About Sustainable Development
An aspiring MCE for Offinso South , has called for total public support for the President and the Minister for Local Government and Rural Development (LGRD) in their quest to use existing structures at the local level to ensure sustainable development is brought to the doorsteps of the citizenry.
Speaking exclusively to Pure FM in Kumasi which was monitored by Wontumionline.com, John Kwadwo Owusu-Boakye aka “General Abito” indicated that he has greater faith in the political leadership of country and also the Minister of LGRD , Hon Daniel Kwaku Botwe’s stewardship to bring about a thriving local government system that can stand the test of time.
According to him, Hon Dan Botwe did a great deal of work by spearheading the creation of six new Regions, a feat which has boosted the President’s impeccable record in his first term in office.
“ Now The Minister is to ensure that MMDCE’s are elected by their own people which poses a novel challenge but I have every confidence in his abilities. What is needed therefore is for party members to all rally around this agenda for good governance and democratic development – key to ensuring the rapid growth of institutions and the local economic for total prosperity of Ghana.” He noted.
Mr Owusu-Boakye also held the view that because the Local Government Minister is supported by able MPs as his deputies , head of the Local Government Services and the administrator at the DACF Secretariat, who all have the requisite expertise and experience, Ghana stands a good chance to emerge as one of the best countries with proper decentralised system of government.
According to the astute aspiring Offinso Municipal Chief Executive, who is also an eminent development planner, MPs as members of the Legislative arm of government should effectively collaborate with their constituents, traditional leaders as well as other stakeholders in formulating grass root policies for the development of their constituencies.
”With a holistic approach backed by a common desire to place the interest of the nation first, they surely will compliment efforts by the Executive and Judiciary to bolster Ghana’s democratic credentials.” He emphasized.
Mr Owusu Boakye continued, “Let’s stop taking parochial view of issues but instead have the general welfare of the people who voted for us at heart by serving them to the best of our abilities and not to lord it over them.” He cautioned.
Meanwhile, Mr Owusu-Boakye’s aspiration to become the next Offinso MCE has been hailed by a host of NNP functionaries. They include the Offinso South Municipal Assembly Members, Counsel of Elders, some high ranking party members and prominent citizens of Offinso.
In anticipation of the President’s official list of MMDCE’s nominees to be outdoored anytime soon, some NPP functionaries have in their collective and individual capacities expressed confidence that when the hardworking Mr. Owusu Boakye gets the nod, “his humility and vision which constitute his biggest attribute will be harnessed to bring about a monumental transformation of the Offinso Municipality
through various innovative blueprints he has authored whose proposals are ready.”
“I have confidence in General Abito whose various innovative proposals and blueprints to transform Offinso Municipality are ready to build a united party especially, at the Constituency level to set the pace for the NPP to break the eight term jinx.”
One of his admirers said about the man who is basking in his enviable pedigree as one of the most dedicated and committed members of the ruling NPP.
