The government has sent a combined force of police and military personnel to Nkwanta in the Oti Region to restore peace and order following violent clashes believed to have stemmed from a longstanding chieftaincy dispute.
The violence, which began on Wednesday, January 15, and escalated into the evening of Thursday, January 16, has resulted in the deaths of three individuals, with one person missing while several others injured.
As tensions remain high, residents of Nkwanta are living in fear, with reports of sporadic gunfire continuing to echo through the region.
The unrest has left the local population anxious, with many seeking shelter amid the escalating violence.
Government spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, confirmed the swift response of security forces. He stated that an initial contingent of personnel was deployed late Thursday night to help quell the violence. Additional troops are set to arrive today in an effort to reinforce security and restore law and order to the area.
