A communications team member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ishmael Adams, has stated that the accusations levelled against President Akufo-Addo over his recent travels by the North Tongu Member of Parliament (MP), Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa are mere propaganda to score political prominence.
Reacting to the accusation on Movement In The Morning Show, Mr. Adams noted that this is a strategy adopted by the MP to divert attention from the Ahotor project, an initiative developed by former Finance minister Dr. Kwabena Duffuor aimed at providing canopies, chairs, and sound systems to all constituencies within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) fraternity for rentals at a cost of 8.2M Ghana cedis.
According to Mr. Adams, “since the move by the former minister may go against the fortunes of former President Mahama in his quest to contest for the flagbearership position for the NDC, Okudzeto wouldn’t want the media to even discuss this at all, hence he had to quickly develop a strategy to divert the attention of Dr. Duffuor’s project”.
In furtherance he stated emphatically that whatever be the case, even if Dr. Kwabena Duffour is elected as the flagbearer for the NDC, the NPP will still win the 2024 elections. He went on to advise Okudzeto to desist from such propaganda and partisan politics because it will not help his course as a politician.
“While they are providing canopies, we are busy building factories in every district,” he added.
Mr Ablakwa has been criticizing President Akufo-Addo for what he believes is his seeming extravagance with regard to the flights chartered for his trips abroad.
In a post on social media, the NDC lawmaker said the President is renting another ultra-modern private jet at the astronomical cost of €20,000 an hour.
Meanwhile, the Office of the President has expressed surprise that Samuel Okudzeto failed to back his claim that President Akufo-Addo travelled to Brussels in a chartered flight with evidence.
According to the Presidency, the lawmaker has resulted in shifting of goalposts rather than apologizing after he was caught pants down for lying about the President.
