Oforikrom NDC Members Defection To NPP Still Talk Of The Town
Last weeks announcement that over 200 members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Oforikrom constituency have defected to the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has come as surprise to political pundits with the elections less than a month away.
It is still the biggest news in town as wotumionline.com has found out.
“It’s unbelievable and gives a clear indication that the NDC has become a sinking ship so ideally if your are on board, the best you can do to stay alive is to jump off it and swim towards the NPP for safety.” One political analyst, Yaw Kumi Yeboah said.
According to the chairman of the defected NDC members at Ayigya Zongo, Baba Alhassan, “they can no longer associate themselves with a party that was born and raised in falsehood and continues to remain so.”
He made a further disclosure that, “another reason for leaving the NDC tojoin the NPP is that President Nana Akufo-Addo and his team have exceeded people’s expectations in terms of the fulfillment of campaign promises they made back in 2016.”
He continued; “This government has really done well .The party under Nana Addo made so many promises which we thought couldn’t be fulfilled but they have proved the doubting thomases wrong. Within a period of just three and half years since they have been in office he has done a lot for the Zongo residents. This is in stark contrast of those whose eight years in office did not benefit the Zongo communities in any way. That’s why we have decided to defect to the NPP and vote for President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and their Parliamentary Candidate, Hon Dr. Emmanuel Marfo..
Later Hon Dr.Marfo appealed to the constituents to encourage more of their colleagues “yet to see the light” to help renew his mandate since the NDC couldn’t do anything for them even though they were in office for a longer period.
Hon Dr. Marfo recalled that four years ago when the party members in the constituency did a house to house campaign they pledged that if Nana Akufo Addo became the President they would transform the area and this has been fulfilled.
According to him the Oforikrom constituency needs somebody of his stature who is more conversant with the area’s challenges so that he can effectively table them in Parliament for government to address them.
He added that the NDC has deceived their followers for far too long and urged them to vote massively for President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the NPP’s Parliamentary Candidate on Dec 7, “since they have fulfilled their promises by fixing their rough roads, and improved upon their general infrastructural needs. The party as an entity has contributed 100 bags of cement and also gave them GHC2,000 cash to complete their mosque project’
Hon Dr. Marfo who has personally made a cash donation of GHC10,000 to aid the completion of the mosque urged the defectors to join his teeming supporters to vote for the NPP to show appreciation.”
The women’s organizer of the Loyal Zongo Movement of the NDC, Hajara Wumann (Mama Ajasco), who led the defectors emphasized that , “this is not cosmetic defection. We mean it is real and we are desirous to join the winning team that can move Ghana forward and that team is NPP.”
