The Deputy Registrar, operation Pharmacy Council, Dr. Daniel Amaning Danquah, has explained the rationale behind the e-pharmacy launched by the Vice President, Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia.
According to him, the platform has a direct link with the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) to approve all medicines dispensed by pharmacies, thereby weeding-out unlicensed pharmacy operations and reducing disparities in the cost of medicines.
“It is also expected to tackle some of the major administrative and delivery issues which affect the practice of pharmacy; also lessen healthcare provider dependency, since subscribers can access vital health information with the help of a pharmacist without necessarily going to the pharmacy. Both patients and pharmacists will not need to travel far to receive or dispense medicines”, he told Kwaku Dawuro on Movement In The Morning Show on Wontumi Radio/Movement TV.
Also, he insisted that the national e-pharmacy platform will enable the public to obtain genuine medicines from accredited pharmacies.
“Several strategies have been developed and rolled out with a view to ensuring that pharmaceutical care teams and facilities are evenly distributed across the country to improve access to pharmaceutical services,” he added.
Stressing that “with the e-pharmacy platform linked to regulatory bodies such as the FDA, it will be simpler to authenticate medicines and likewise deal with different issues within the supply of medication”.
HOW THE E-PHARMACY WORKS…
All one would have to do is to log on to gnepplatform.com via google and will be directed to the platform.
You will have two questions to answer; either to speak to a pharmacist or buy medicine.
So if it’s medicine you will want to buy, then you must tell if you have prescription or its self medication.
If it’s a prescription, then you must upload it and once you do that all the pharmacies licensed to operate under the e-pharmacy platform will appear, then one of these pharmacies will pick you up and attend to you.
You can equally visit the site for consultation.
