NPP Slams Sammy Gyamfi Over Lavish Lifestyle, Questions Source of Dollar Gifts

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has launched an attack on the Acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board, Sammy Gyamfi, accusing him of displaying opulence and engaging in a lifestyle unbecoming of a public servant.

The accusations stem from a recently circulated video in which Gyamfi is seen handing out U.S. dollar bills to controversial evangelist Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, popularly known as Nana Agradaa. The footage has sparked widespread debate and criticism, prompting calls for accountability and ethical scrutiny.

At a press conference, NPP National Organiser Henry Nana Boakye stated that the video was only the tip of the iceberg, claiming it exposed Gyamfi’s disregard for public sensitivity and his detachment from the economic realities facing Ghanaians.

“It may have escaped many observers of this unfortunate incident, but not only was Mr Sammy Gyamfi giving out United States dollars without restraint, but he also engaged in painted opulence just after 120 days in government,” Boakye said.

Boakye further alleged that Gyamfi was chauffeured in a 2025 Range Rover Autobiography valued at $350,000 on the day the video was recorded — an example, he argued, of the CEO’s excessive and inappropriate spending.

“It is palpably unethical and a complete betrayal of public trust for Mr. Sammy Gyamfi to receive all these benefits while supposedly helping maintain a stable economy, yet choosing to use U.S. dollars instead of the Ghana cedi,” Boakye added.

The NPP’s concerns extend beyond the dollar incident, pointing to broader questions about Gyamfi’s conditions of service and his personal financial behavior. They argue that such extravagance undermines the public’s confidence in government and erodes the principles of accountability and modesty expected of public officials.

The controversy arrives at a time of heightened scrutiny over public spending, particularly as the government has urged Ghanaians to tighten their belts in the face of economic recovery efforts.

As pressure mounts, many are calling for an official investigation into the source of Gyamfi’s wealth and the appropriateness of his expenditures while serving in a public capacity.
