Michael Osibo will pick forms to contest the the newly created Guan Constituency NPP primaries tomorrow when the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) opens nominations.
The NPP has announced the opening of nominations in orphan constituencies on Tuesday, July 11.
The decision was taken following the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) and National Council meetings held on April 3, 2023.
The Plant Engineer by professionin, Michael Osibo an interview with wontumionline.com said all relevant stakeholders in the party have been consulted broadly and they have given him their blessings and greenlight to contest.
“I have done a lot of consultations among the rank and file of the NPP and they have given their blessings to contest. I also think that I have contributed so much in the NPP in the then Volta region, Oti region and Guan constituency and I want to confirm that when nominations are opened, I will pick up the form,” he said.
He served as a polling station agent at Likpe Mate in the 1996 elections, a constituency youth organizer from 1997 to 2001, a political officer for the National Youth Wing Secretariat from 1998 to 2000, a coordinator for the Likpe East Zone in the 2000 elections. He contested the Volta Regional Organiser position in 2005 and served as Assembly Member for Likpe Mate electoral area from 2006 to 2010 before serving as the 1st Vice Chairman for Hohoe Constituency from 2013 to 2015.
He argues his ambition to lead the NPP into the 2024 elections is not just to appear on the ballot paper but to make an impact and win the seat for the party and make a great records for the new Constituency.
He also served as a leading member for the AFONA V16 (a voluntary campaign group) and Volta For Change during the 2016 general elections. He supported all the Parliamentary Candidates in both cash and kind from Lawyer Ray Kakraba Quashie in 1996, Kofi Boateng 2000, John Peter Amewu 2004& 2008, Emefa Obro Adibo 2012 & Marlon Praise Anipa 2016.
He continued to be involved in youth mobilisation and mentorship programmes to keep the party attractive at the grassroots level.
Osibo was also a member of the Joint Consultative Committee (JCC) for the chiefs and the people of Oti Region and served as the campaign coordinator for Santrokofi, Akpafu, Lolobi and Likpe (SALL) in the highly successful 2018 referendum.
A high point of his political career in 2015 was when he was a candidate in the Hohoe Parliamentary primaries in 2015 but lost to the late Marlon Praise Anipa.
However, the governing NPP is increasing significant votes in both parliamentary and presidential elections in the last two elections
In his remarks, Michael Osibo said his vision as Member of Parliament for the area is to tackle women and youth empowerment, roads and infrastructure for education and health, “We still have a lot of developmental challenges”, he added.
“We need more school blocks; the furniture situation alone is huge because this is a District and constituency. We need more CHPS compounds for the people to have easy access to healthcare and I think these are some of the issues we have to focus on”.
He was a candidate in the Hohoe Parliamentary primaries in 2015 but lost to the late Marlon Praise Anipa.
Michael Osibo is a veteran NPP activist who hails from Likpe Mate in the Guan District of Oti region. He is a household name all across the traditional areas of SALL because of his unique approach to grassroots politics.
