George Akom, Senior Assistant Registrar at the Ghana Communication Technology University has filed his Parliamentary nomination forms at the Party’s constituency office at Drobonso, the capital of Sekyere Afram Plains District in Ashanti.
A massive crowd comprising polling station executives, electoral area co-ordinators, past and present constituency executives and party supporters joined the “new energy anchor-man” to proudly display their dancing skills while chanting praise songs.
The young enthusiastic politician after submitting his nominations to the constituency elections committee assured delegates that he would work hard to win the seat and uplift the image of the constituency on the political map.
He teased that the NDC MP has not done anything to improve the growth and development of the people.
Mr. George Akom said his campaign, christened “the youth project,” seeks to bring prosperity to the young men and women in the area, adding that he would tackle education, youth empowerment, entrepreneurial skills training among several other laudable initiatives to ameliorate the predicament of the people.
“There are a lot of developmental gaps in the constituency and that is exactly what we stand to address for the people.”
He pledged to improve the conditions of the people as past and present NDC MPs had not done much in that regard
Mr Akom further urged the crowd mostly, party supporters , to unite and engage in decent campaign to avert the situation that caused the “unpardonable defeat” in the 2020 elections.
He was optimistic that with unity the NPP will re-capture the parliamentary seat from the NDC.
Mr. Ackom is confident of winning the governing NPP’s primaries to elect parliamentary candidates by a wide margin and believes he stands out among the other candidates to set a new record in the party’s history as far as the Sekyere Afram Plains constituency is concerned.
Mr Akom, was the third person to file his nomination for the upcoming parliamentary primaries in the constituency.
Meanwhile, a senior lecturer at the Kumasi Technical University (KsTU), Dr. Solomon Kwarteng Fokuo, who was part of the delegation that accompanied the aspirant to submit his forms said in a separate interview that it was inspiring and encouraging seeing the youth and aged display their loyalty with so much joy for George Akom’s candidature bid.
He disclosed that, internal research conducted by some “academic patriots” indicates that the people of Drobonso will vote massively for an indigene, a son and a person who understands the culture, tradition, condition and situation of the people.
Dr. Fokuo is convinced that, Mr. Akom will win the parliamentary primaries and by extension, the parliamentary seat with the support of the party, “academic patriots” and the public at large.
“Our research shows that if we get someone like George Akom in Sekyere Afram Plain, it’ll be easier for the NPP to win the seat; the reason is that the people prefer an indigene and Akom is a true son of the land. He’s connected, intelligent and visionary, very poised for development.” He touted.
