Prof. Tony Baah has responded to comments by Dr. Amoako Baah for Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia to step aside for others to take over the flagbeaership position of the party after President Akufo-Addo.
Prof. Tony Baah in an interview with Wontumionline.com stated that never has it been the practice of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to allow only elders or people who have been in the party for longer to contest for positions.
He highlighted that before former President Agyekum Kufuor became flagbearer of the party, there were others who had served the party longer and older than him.
However, the party decided to elect candidate Kufuor because they believed and knew he would win them the 2000 elections, which he did, Prof. Baah said as he punched holes in the arguments of Dr. Amoako Baah.
Dr Richard Amoako Baah is on record to have said that the Vice President Bawumia should step aside for the others who were in the party before he joined to contest to become the next flagbearer of the NPP ahead of the 2024 elections.
“What happened to those who were in line who were challenging Nana Addo? Twenty years, you should step aside because you have to be fair to the party. Step aside and let the others also compete, that is fairness. You don’t say I want this, I don’t want this and because I picked him as Vice President he should go. Is he the only person in the party?”
