.Chairman Wontumi has called for a ceasefire, suggesting that instead of insulting Alban Bagbin, that energy should be channeled into prayers for him.
The Ashanti Regional Chairman for the New Patriotic Party, Mr. Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, has pleaded with aggrieved Ghanaians not to be harsh on Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, following the role he played in generating a fistfight in Parliament over the E-levy bill.
Addressing the issue on Wontumi TV, Chairman Wontumi suggested that “nobody should insult Bagbin, he needs prayer and advise.”
He therefore appealed to the Speaker of Parliament to grateful for the respect the administration of President Akufo-Addo has shown him by elevating to the position he occupies now noting that “former President John Mahama never Bagbin”.
Last year, some MPs were engaged in a fistfight following disagreement on the E-levy bill. The fight ensued when the MPs were voting in a headcount to decide whether the E-levy bill should be accepted under a certificate of urgency.
The Minority had attempted to stop the First Deputy Speaker, Joseph Osei Owusu, who was presiding over the House, from leaving his seat and participating in the voting process.
