No ‘Proper’ Dancehall Music – AK Songstress Jabs Shatta Wale, Stonebwoy, Ras Kuuku, Epixode..?

Afrobeats singer, formerly dancehall artist, AK Songstress, has revealed that the Ghanaian music industry is lacking in the dancehall department. Accordingly, she has placed the crown of the dancehall pioneer on her head.

AK Songstress, whose latest single, Jonathan, is making waves all over-explained to Delay why none of her dancehall songs didn’t catch Ghanaian’s attention.

“When I do something, I do it very well. That’s the kind of person I am. My dancehall music/ style, I can say, is above the Ghanaian industry as far as dancehall is concerned. And the kind of dancehall that those who took the lead showed the masses as dancehall is not what dancehall is about. I stuck to doing what dancehall should really be, which my people didn’t understand.”

The versatile actress revealed her new identity as “an Afrodancehall artiste/ Afrobeats artiste.” Which took the conversation to talk about her copying Nigeria’s Simi. She responded by saying that her versatility is authentic and unique. ‘
Also, AKSongstress points out that she was not an underground artiste. Although her reggae/dancehall songs were not breaking records, she was popular with a huge fan base.

“In the past 5 months, I’ve released two hit songs across the globe. I always say if songs are supposed to get to this roof, my songs have been at the light’s level. So I have not been too down because I have a lot of fans. But then I was waiting for that major breakthrough.”
