The Member of Parliament for Offinso North Constituency, Dr Fred Kyei Asamoah, has criticized President John Dramani Mahama for failing to fulfill his promise to cocoa farmers to drill boreholes on their farms.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament during the debate on the 2026 State of the Nation Address (SONA), the lawmaker expressed disappointment that the President did not address the promise he made to cocoa farmers. According to him, it is unfortunate that the issue was not highlighted at a time when farmers are already complaining about government’s decision by reducing cocoa prices.
Dr. Kyei Asamoah also questioned the President’s claim that 3,600 jobs have been created in each constituency. He challenged Members of Parliament to confirm whether they can boldly say such a number of jobs have been secured for their constituents.
He further criticized what he described as the government’s focus on renaming projects and institutions introduced by the previous administration.
“Unfortunately, President Mahama has moved from Commander in Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces to Commander in Chief of Renaming and Rebranding,” he said.
The MP cited examples such as the renaming of the Ghana National Apprenticeship Programme and changes involving Akenten Appiah Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED), among other initiatives introduced under the previous New Patriotic Party government.
