The Ashanti Regional Communication Director for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dennis Kwakwa, has described as absurd the target of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to get 1.5 million votes from the Ashanti region.
Dennis Kwakwa claims the target of the NDC is a plot to swindle former President John Dramani Mahama of his money and eventually keep him in opposition.
The opposition NDC has announced an “operation over 1.5 million votes in Ashanti region” in Asawase Constituency during the party’s Unity Walk in the constituency on Sunday, June 4th, 2023.
During the walk, a former Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu said “going into election 2024, the NDC is targeting at least over 1.5 million votes in Ashanti region. This means the destructive elephant will run back into the bush for Ghanaians to gain their economic freedom.”
But addressing the issue on the Wontumi Morning Show, Dennis Kwakwa stated that the announcement by the NDC would only anger Asante people to come out in their numbers and vote against the NDC.
“They come to Ashanti region to raise funds for their personal use. They come here and make wild promises to their flagbearer. Joseph Yamin did the same thing and Mahama doled out money to him. He promised him 1.5 million votes and they couldn’t achieve it. Haruna Iddrisu is being tactical and his move is to raise personal funds and anger the people of Asante so that Mahama would not be President again”, he said.
