The Sala Games which was organized by the NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Sekyere Afram Plains Constituency closed down 3 schools because of the noise level from high – sounded public address system. The event which was held on Tuesday, June 18, 2024 to climax the Idir Adha disturbed classes in 3 separate schools; Dagomba Basic, Drobonso Methodist Basic and Drobonso Presby Schools.
The games which were organized on the various school fields disturbed classes and made the pupils not participating in classes. At Dagomba, due to the games, many pupils did not even attend classes and used the situation to witness the matches whiles classes were ongoing.
The worst of the situation was that some schools were in their mock examination preparation week and due to the disturbances, many candidates left the schools for their homes to get a conducive environment to study. The schools that supposed to close at 3:00pm had no option than to have the day’s activities in the schools interrupted.
Parents in the affected schools had expressed their worries in sad mood , whiles some ready to withdraw their wards from those schools. A reliable source indicated that no permission was sought from the Education Directorate neither the District Assembly.
All attempts by parents and citizens of the communities to put a stop of the program went into the death ears of the organizers of the program.
The various Headteachers and Staff in the affected schools were left in limbo as nothing could be done from their outfit.
According to reliable sources, the events were made to campaign votes for the Parliamentary Candidate towards the 2024 general elections.
The stakeholders in the district are calling on the leadership of the Education Directorate to take the matter up and call the Parliamentary Candidate and the organizers to order to avoid future occurrence.
