The seeming tension between the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) proves the party has a “mental problem” the Ashanti regional Director of Communication for the New Patriotic Party has said.
Dr. Kwesi Kyei stated on Wontumi TV’s Agenda 2024 political show that the NDC has been constantly attacking the EC whenever the commission proposes new electoral reforms and this shows the poor mental state of the party.
“The NDC has a mental problem. They always have issues with the EC because from the word go, they always find a way to fight with this EC”, Dr. Kwesi Kyei said.
He further accused the Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Sam George of always leading an attack on the EC together with Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia.
The EC is planning reforms which is to ensure the closure of polls in the 2024 general elections at 3pm on election day instead of the usual 5pm.
When the reforms were announced by the commission, 10 political parties including the NPP, People’s National Convention (PNC), Convention People’s Party (CPP), Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP), National Democratic Party (NDP) and the Ghana Union Movement (GUM) attended the meeting but the NDC was absent.

Shortly after, the NDC at a press conference, stated that the closing of polls at 3:00 pm has the potential to disenfranchise many Ghanaians.
They accused the EC of turning IPAC from a consultative and consensus building platform into an information sharing platform.
But Dr. Kwesi Kyei noted that it was “childish” for the NDC to have issues with the EC because it intends to close polls early.
“Their (NDC) excuse that people would go to farms and because of that they would be disenfranchise is petty”, Dr. Kwesi Kyei said.
He added that just like parents who attend PTA meetings don’t think for a school, the NDC should know the EC is an independent body that can survive without their contributions.
He further urged the leadership of the NDC to “go and pee and sleep” and stop disturbing public peace with their unnecessary rants.
