National Theatre Can Create Over 5000 Jobs- Nana Fredua Ofori Atta (VIDEO)

The Board Chairman for National theatre, Nana Fredua Ofori Atta has revealed that the National theatre can create over 5000 jobs if enough money is channeled into the sector.

He said this on Movement In The Morning Show with Kwaku Dawuro on Wednesday, 6th July 2022.

The National theatre was built under the PNDC government led by later President Jerry John Rawlings to serve as multi-functional venue for concert, drama, plays, musical shows, exhibitions and other events. An agreement between the government of Ghana and People’s Republic of China was signed on 5th July, 1989.  The theatre was completed on the 16th December 1992 and since then it has served its purpose to the fullest.

Nana Ofori Atta said ‘’We are supposed to have an office in every Region. If the President or the finance minister would agree, we can create about 5000 jobs and that will be for the people who will be working in the offices in the various Regions. Concert party will be available in the various regions so people wouldn’t have to travel to Accra to be a part of the cast’’.

He added that the theatre exist to train individuals who have passion in acting and concert and once the regions have their offices a lot of people throughout the country will be trained.

‘’ They will learn how to play the guitar, drums and the other instruments. To tell you, these people are really talented but they only need to be trained. They are not even told what to say they only give them ideas but they deliver to the highest core. Concert party cast are special- they are knowledgeable and highly creative”, he indicated.

He stated that the National theatre job is huge but unfortunately people don’t give the sector the needed respect.

“The National theatre land was formally the Olympics Park where people played football. It was built by Rawlings. Efua Sutherland had a small house on the land and she used to help children  develop their acting craft.  She and some others were the key people who could speak to government to pay attention to the sector but they died unfortunately. However, I still have hope the theatre can be revived again’’, he stressed.
