NAPO Recalls Free SHS Launch 7 Years go; Pledges To Support Bawumia Protect Gains

President Akufo-Addo Accepts Resignation Of Hon. Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh As Minister For Energy

The vice-presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has highlighted the positive impact of the government’s flagship policy, Free SHS, seven years after its launch.

According to Dr. Opoku Prempeh, affectionately known as NAPO, the population of students in senior high schools has surged to 1.4 million, a significant increase compared to the numbers under the previous NDC administration.

He believes this makes the Free SHS programme the most impactful social policy ever implemented in the country and Sub-Saharan Africa.

“Today, thanks to the President’s vision, the narrative is different, in spite of challenges, with the SHS population moving from 800,000 students at the end of 2016 to over 1.4 million today. This is fantastic by any measure.

“This is undoubtedly the single most impactful social policy ever implemented in our country and Africa south of the Sahara,” NAPO said.

Recounting the day the Free SHS policy was launched by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, NAPO disclosed that they worked hard for six months prior to the launch to ensure the policy, aimed at alleviating the financial burden of senior high education, was successfully implemented.

NAPO has also pledged to protect the gains of the Free SHS alongside Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the presidential candidate for the NPP.
