With The The Adentan Municipal Chief Executive, Daniel Nii-Noi Adumah, has encouraged residents of his area who are on retirement to take up to mushroom farming and reap the huge economic benefits attached.

The late afternoon programme provides an opportunity for MMDCE’s to showcase their achievements. It is hosted by Oheneba Nana Asiedu.
Hon Nii-Noi Adumah said the unit has been created to help residents especially, those who have retired from active service to establish mushroom farm a their backyard.
“So far we have trained 5,000 people in mushroom cultivation who are doing so well in the sub-sector.” He noted.
He said the idea of going into mushroom cultivation has become very popular among retired senior citizens in the Adentan area.
He said another enterprise which is rapidly becoming attractive to residents is fish farming.
“We have 21 water bodies including some abandoned dugout dams in the Amanhia area which make aquaculture a highly lucrative enterprise and our goal is to get 1000 homes to be part of the project.”
He said fish species such as okpoku, tilapia and mud fish can be reared in the protected river bodies.
Its our goal to make Adentan a big hub for fish production.” The MCE said.
According to him currently 38 cages which contain 2,000 pieces of fish have been created thus, having enough to supply to interested farmers and appealed to all those interested in going into its farming to contact the unit.
Explaining some of the dynamics of Adentan, Hon Nii-Noi Adumuah noted that it has a mix of affluent class and rural communities with most of them commuting on daily basis to Accra to earn their daily bread.
“In the day time Adenta becomes almost a ghost town but in the evening when majority of residents return to their homes the vibrancy of the Municipality bounces back.”
The Adentan MCE also spoke about the progress of work of the six pedestrian walkways at Adentan which attracted a lot of media interest due to the high incidence of road accident on the stretch between Adentan and Madina which forms part of the Aburi – Accra main road.
“It in fulfillment of one of Nana Addo and his NPP government’s promises on that particular stretch. He however, regretted that despite the completion of some of the bridges some recalcitrant pedestrians still prefer to walk across the very busy road which poses a death trap. without using the footbridge which offers a better option.
“Using the footbridge can be an exercise in itself so we try to encourage pedestrians to use it more often but the recalcitrant ones still take risk of walking across.” Hon Nii Noi Adumuah lamented..
