MTN’s 25th Anniversary Promo: Beware Of Fraudsters — Customers Cautioned

The Officials of the leading telecommunication giant, MTN-Ghana have cautioned all Ghanaians, especially their customers to be careful about scammers or fraudsters in order not to fall into their tricks during the ongoing 25th anniversary promotion.

Mr. Maxwell Arthur speaking at Tuesday’s virtual press conference on the promotion cautioned all customers not to allow themselves to be deceived by scammers.

He explained that, the promotion is based on usage where participants accrue points via revenue generating activities. “Revenue generating activities include Voice, Data, SMS, Value Added Service (VAS), digital and Mobile Money transactions where fees are charged.

In line with our strategic intent for 2021, which is Leading digital solutions for Africa’s progress, promo points are skewed towards revenue generating activities performed on our digital platforms.

He said a Customer enters into the promo by dialling *156# and select option 5.

Mr. Maxwell Arthur disclosed that the promo targets all MTN customers as part of the 25th Anniversary Celebration of Scancom PLC in recognition of its customer’s loyalty.

The Promo will run from August to October 2021.

Participants of this promo could win a brand-new Hyundai Sonata, Cash Rewards, free Airtime amongst others.

He said to deepen their regionalized value proposition, the promo is designed to ensure that at least a customer in each of the 16 regions drives home a brand new Hyundai Sonata.

He said winner selection, rankings and prizes will be available to only those who opt in by dialling *156#.Fibre Broadband (FBB) customers are opted in by default and will not require to dial *156#. The minimum spend which qualifies a customer to accrue promo points is one pesewa and above.

Adding that Non-voice numbers such as Access Point Names (APNs), MIFIs, Modems, Routers etc. are excluded from the promotion, however purchases made from other MTN Phone numbers or Sim Cards for these services will accrue points on the purchasing MSISDN.

Mr.Arthur who disclosed that the Company is expected to spend about Ten Million Ghana ceids (Ghc 10million) for the promotion advised all Customers of MTN to subscribe the promotion.

According to him, the promotion is opened to every customer of MTN across the Sixteen (16) regions and to ensure that the promotion was very transparent, KPMG has been contracted to supervise the promotion and what MTN will only do is to publish position of each customer during the period.

He stated emphatically that, MTN will only use their official number 0244300000 to call luck winners of the promotion. The winners will also be published on their various platforms neither will any winner be given any code nor ask to pay any money or air time in the process.

Mr. Maxwell Arthur advised all customers of MTN to ignore any number apart from their official number that will be used to call luck winners in the course of the promotion.

”We will not use SMS to invite any winner. Please don’t pay any money to anyone for MTN 25th anniversary promotion”, he cautioned.

Mrs. Georgina Asare Fiagbenu and Mrs Afua Asare-Adjei, both top officials of MTN-Ghana also encouraged all customers of the Company to subscribe to the 25th anniversary promotion.

Adding that all MTN Customers need to do is to subscribe to the promotion, talk, browse, momo & use MTN Apps to exceed their target points by higher percentage margin and they could stand a chance of winning a brand new Sonata car or other prizes.
