MTN Black List Over 20, 000 Mobile Money Agents For Aiding Fraudulent Acts

MTN, Ghana’s leading telecommunication provider has terminated an agreement with over 20,000 mobile money agents.

This follows their involvement in some fraudulent activities which goes against the codes of the network.

The CEO of Mobile Money Limited, Eli Hini announced this at the Northern Sector MoMo Awards 2021 in Kumasi.

About 400 awards went to Agents and Merchants including Tv sets, Motorbikes, Generators, CCTV Cameras and the ultimate prize of a brand new Hyundai SUV vehicle.

“The rate at which some mobile money agents engage in such deliberate act is very high. They team up with fraudsters to gain an unfair advantage over customers’ money,” the CEO emphasized.

Eli Hini said this act has had an impact on the long term viability of the Mobile Money firm.

Notwithstanding, he called on Mobile Money Agents to adopt the use of saves as a security measure to prevent robberies.

Eli Hini hinted that CCTV Cameras are provided to the agents to capture criminal activities on agents.

He advised agents to keep Monies from the sights of people adding that such attitudes attract criminals.

Mr. Hini noted that the introduction of ID Cards to transact MoMo transactions since April 2021 has helped to reduce fraud in the business.
