Minority Will Hold Government Accountable – Bekwai MP

January 15, 2025 MAN Wontumi

Hon. Ralph Poku-Adusei, Member of Parliament for Bekwai Constituency, has asserted that the minority is very prepared to hold the current government to account as they take over the affairs of the Nation. Addressing the media after the swearing-in ceremony, Hon. Poku-Adusei stated that the Minority would hold the government to account, despite the NDC’s strong majority in Parliament. He emphasized the importance of a strong and united Minority caucus in ensuring that the government is transparent and accountable to the people.

“We will not shy away from our responsibility to scrutinize the government’s policies and actions,” Hon. Poku-Adusei stated. “We will hold them to their promises, starting with H.E. John Mahama’s 120-day social contract with Ghanaians.”

The MP’s statement underscores the critical role that the Minority plays in a democratic system. As noted in various studies, new entrants like Hon. Poku-Adusei have the power to influence legislation, hold the government to account, and represent the interests of their constituents.

As Ghana’s 9th Parliament begins its work, the country looks forward to a robust and constructive engagement between the majority and Minority caucuses. With the Minority committed to holding the government to account, Ghanaians can expect a more transparent and accountable governance process.

The inauguration of MPs-elect to the 9th Parliament of Ghana has been completed successfully, marking the beginning of a new legislative era. The event saw the retention of the Speaker and 2nd Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Alban S. Bagbin and Hon.Andrew Amoanko Asiama MP, Fomena from the 8th Parliament, with the addition of Hon. Bernard Ahiafor, MP for Akatsi South as the 1st Deputy Speaker of Parliament.

The inauguration and subsequent swearing-in of the President and Vice President-elect went smoothly, thanks to the tireless efforts of the transition team and state protocol. These events set the tone for a peaceful transfer of power and a commitment to democratic governance.
