A TWENTY-SEVEN-year old man is in the grips of the Samreboi Divisional Police for allegedly raping a 62-year-old speech-impaired woman, popularly called Aunty Rita or Araba, at Mempeasem in the Amenfi West Municipality of the Western Region.
The suspect, believed to be a Togolese, was identified as Alidu Salifu. Speaking to journalists, a younger sister of the victim, Agatha Mensah, explained that her speech-impaired sister stayed in a compound house at Mempeasem where she visited her from time to time.
She said at about 4am yesterday, she had a call that her 62-year-old sister has been raped by the Togolese, who stays in the area. “So I rushed to their house and met the victim crying,” she said.
According to her, she gathered that the suspect sneaked into her sister’s room, pulled her into a nearby bush and forcefully had sexual intercourse with her.
“The suspect left my sister in the bush after the incident. I learnt my sister could not shout when she was being raped, but someone later heard her voice in the bush early morning yesterday and went to her rescue and called me,” she narrated.
She revealed that the victim was rushed to the Samartex Hospital, where she is currently receiving treatment. “The suspect has been arrested by the police for further investigation,” she said.
