Make Ahafo Indigene Forestry Commission Boss Or Deputy – Ahafo Group Appeals
Members of the Ahafo Timber Contractors Association have made a passionate appeal to the President, His Execllency Nana Akufo-Addo, to consider appointing indigenes as a Chief Executive Officer of the Forestry Commission from the Ahafo Region.
The Group Leader, Yaw Fosu fondly called Kabila indicated that, the vast forest in the area has been in a bad condition for long so if the President appoints a CEO or even his Deputy from the locality , he would feel compelled to rehabilitate the vital natural resource.
In an interview on Wontumi Radio/TV’s Talk Ghana flagship programme, Kabila said that, some years ago, Ahafo was the leading hardwood supplier in West- Africa, but of late she has lost that position.
Mr. Yaw Fosu added that, most of the timber species in the country are being exported from Ahafo and that an indigene of the area should be giving the priority to serve his community in the capacity as the CEO or Deputy CEO.
He told Oheneba Nana Asiedu, host of the show that, since the former CEO of COCOBOD, Hon. Joseph Boahen Aidoo is an indigene of Western Region, the impact he has made in the Cocoa sector which is highly commendable cannot be delinked to his ethnic background.
“His people are hailing him for his achievements all because he is their own and he finds himself in a better position to understand their problems.” He said.
Kabila bemoaned that, for several years, Ahafo has been neglected when top leadership position appointments at the Forestry Commission are made..
But the group leader is however hopeful that, “”things will turn around under President Akufo-Addo’s administration.
