Majority In Parliament Will Soon Be Left “Helpless” Without The Support Of Minority- Lawyer George Oppong

A communications team member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Lawyer George Oppong has predicted that the majority in Parliament will soon face significant challenges, as they may not have the numbers to form a quorum without the support of minority members.

Speaking on Wontumi TV, lawyer George Oppong noted that this dilemma will arise once all boards are constituted and appointments are made, leading to widespread apathy among the majority members.

Oppong explained that with 187 MPs, even if all 60 ministers were chosen from Parliament, many members would be left without roles. Furthermore, board members do not frequently meet, with some meetings held only every three months. As a result, most majority members will be left redundant, leading to apathy.

In Parliament, Oppong noted, the majority will struggle to form a quorum without the support of minority members. This, he said, is because the government cannot accommodate every majority member in ministerial or board positions. To address this issue, the President has formed committees in every sector to engage people and provide them with roles.

Oppong cited the appointment of a Chief of Staff at the Vice President’s office, as well as deputies, as examples of efforts to keep people engaged. He also mentioned the appointment of Joshua Alabi, suggesting that such positions are created to occupy people and prevent apathy.
