Mahama’s Visit To Russia: It Raises Questions Of Money Laundering- UG Don

Dr. Joshua Jebuntie Zaato has described the recent visit by former President John Mahama to Russia, as a bad one that could hurt Ghana’s relationship with our traditional geopolitical partners in the west.

The Political Science lecturer in an interview on Wontumi TV stated that there is a concerted effort led by the International Criminal Court to side-line Russia which should have informed Mr. Mahama to tread cautiously.

You don’t want to be a former president seen associating with Russia, Iran, North Korea and its group. It sends a bad signal to our traditional geopolitical partners in the west”, he explained.

Issues of Russian mercenaries particular the Wagner group operations in Africa, should have prevented Mr Mahama from agreeing to transact business in the country.

There are also issues about Russian mercenaries and what they are doing and not in Africa and west Africa”.

Dr. Zaato maintained that the only reason underpinning the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress’ visit to Russia, was to seek funding and resources for his campaign.

Giving details on how money could be laundered into Mr. Mahama’s account, he stated that “It raises legitimate issues of money laundering that instead of people say collect money and go and run election…they will use the money to buy a lot of books at ridiculous prices and before you realize, it is illicit or illegal money finding its way into your account”.
