Mahama’s Fight Against Galamsey Is Nothing But A Charade- Dr. Samuel Afriyie

A lecturer at Kumasi Technical University, Dr. Samuel Afriyie, has criticize the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government, led by President John Dramani Mahama, over their handling of the galamsey menace.

According to Dr. Afriyie, the President’s vow to fight illegal mining will ultimately prove futile because members of his own party are deeply involved in the practice.

“The NDC government’s fight against galamsey is nothing but a charade. While they claim to be committed to ending illegal mining, their own party members are secretly benefiting from it. This blatant hypocrisy will be their downfall,” Dr. Afriyie declared.

Speaking with Oheneba Nana Asiedu on Wontumi Morning show on Wontumi TV/ radio, Dr. Afriyie further alleged that the NDC government plans to restrict gold purchases to only NDC members, which may lead to the collapse of the Gold Board if they fail to provide a fair price. He cautioned the government against creating propaganda that would harm small-scale miners and advised the miners to collaborate with private sectors to overcome business challenges.

“It’s high time the government stopped playing politics with the galamsey issue,” Dr. Afriyie emphasized.

“Instead of creating an environment that fosters corruption and inequality, they should focus on providing support for small-scale miners and ensuring that the gold industry is regulated fairly.”

In conclusion, Dr. Afriyie reiterated, “They cannot fight galamsey while their people are benefiting from it. The NDC government’s duplicity will be exposed, and their efforts to combat illegal mining will ultimately come to naught.”
