Mahama Has Returned To The Presidency With Vengeance In His heart – Afenyo-Markin

Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has accused President John Dramani Mahama of returning to the highest office of the land with “vengeance in his heart,” following recent political developments that have sparked public outcry.

He made this assertion on Monday, 5 May, when members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) led a demonstration against the suspension of the Chief Justice, Gertrude Torkornoo and submitted a petition to Parliament.

After presenting the petition, Mr Afenyo-Markin expressed grave concern over the politicisation of state institutions under the current administration.

“It is becoming increasingly clear that former President Mahama has returned to power not with a reconciliatory spirit, but with vengeance in his heart,” he said. “We are witnessing actions aimed not at building but breaking down institutions.”

He further claimed that the suspension of the Chief Justice was emblematic of a broader agenda to undermine the independence of the judiciary and silence dissent.

“We must not allow personal vendettas to dictate national policy,” Afenyo-Markin warned. “This country deserves leadership grounded in justice and reconciliation, not retribution.”

The NPP demonstration, which drew a considerable crowd of supporters and civil society actors, was aimed at protesting what organisers called an unconstitutional and politically motivated decision.

The petition presented to Parliament calls for immediate scrutiny of the circumstances surrounding the Chief Justice’s suspension and for the restoration of constitutional order.
