Mahama Gov’t Using Sammy Gyamfi To Promote Galamsey Operations- Okatakyie Afrifa

Through the establishment of the Goldbod, President John Mahama’s government is using Sammy Gyamfi to promote and support galamsey operations, Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah has said.

Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah who has formed the group Generational Rights Protection Society likened the establishment of the GoldBod to a “galamsey board” by remarking that President Mahama is “inadvertently” promoting illegal mining through that outfit.

Speaking to Kwaku Dawuro on Movement TV, he reemphasized that the establishment of GoldBod is a façade by President Mahama to encourage galamsey.

“He has established the galamsey board association headed by Sammy Gyamfi. He tells us he is against galamsey but with the speed of Usain Bolt he has established the galamsey board to buy 12 tons of gold”, he said.

Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah continued that what makes President Mahama guilty is his decision to buy gold from small-scale miners.

“We asked if they are going to get the 12 tons from Anglo Gold Ashanti, New Mount or Precious mining and he says no but that he says he is going to buy it from small scale miners. On paper they claim they are practicing small scale mining but in the bush, they are doing illegal mining”, he said.
