Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has been branded a “lair” by Nana Obiri Boahen, for claiming that he has the power to remove President Akufo-Addo from office.
The deputy General Secretary for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in an interview on Wontumi TV, stated that the claims by the Speaker of Parliament were alien to the provisions in the constitution; making his claims weak.
“Where from this? Our constitution says the President comes first, followed by his Vice before the Speaker… If he says he can remove the President from office then one would wonder if it is a new theory he is propounding in politics, law, history or archeology.”
Nana Obiri further explained that removing the President from office was cumbersome thing to do compared to removing Alban Bagbin as Speaker from Parliament.
“The President only needs two-thirds of MPs to remove the Speaker of Parliament from his position. Impeaching the President is not an easy thing to do.
