A governance expert, has advised the New Patriotic Party (NPP) not to yield to calls from the Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu to allow its incumbent MPs contest the 2023 primaries unopposed.
Dr. Kofi Adu Yamoah in addressing the issue on Wontumi TV, stated that the mantra of running unopposed which is being championed by the Majority leader, would divide the NPP if it is applied.
He noted that it is a wrong approach when it comes to running a political party.
During the NPP’s National Annual Delegates Conference which was held at Kumasi, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu proposed that the NPP allows its incumbent MPs to contest the 2023 primaries unopposed.
He believes the selection process does not necessarily have to be by an election, which he said “has often time turned acrimonious.”
Mr. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu bemoaned the attempt by some elements within the NPP to remove incumbent MPs, including first-time legislators.
