Kwabre East Fire Service Secures Hydrant For Operation.
The Kwabre East Municipal Fire Command has expressed gratitude to the Tafo-Pankrono outfit of the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) for aiding it with the construction of a fire hydrant.
Speaking to Wontumionline.com, the Municipal Fire Commander for Kwabre East, DOIII Desmond Ackah said the unavailability of a hydrant nearby was affecting the department since they had to travel long distance to get water for operations.
The outfit however would want the GWCL to install more fire hydrants at vantage points within the Municipality.
This, he intimated is to aid the Service get easy access to water for operations and fire fighting.

The Kwabre East Commander stated that fire hydrants are the main sources of getting water for continuous firefighting.
Over the years, Ghana Water Company Limited have had to block some of them as road construction had also destroyed some with GWCL not repairing broken ones for use by the Fire Service, DOIII Ackah narrated.
The Commander noted that only few of the so many installed fire hydrants are currently working in Kumasi.
MORE CHALLENGES:
Most of the installed fire hydrants are unserviceable, blocked and inaccessible within the greater Kumasi & its contiguous areas, the Commander recalled.
This phenomenon, he stated affects their operations including high fuel cost as well as the issue of officers traveling long distances to access water for firefighting, a matter he tearfully added causes undue delay in extinguishing fires.

According to the Commander, he conducted a fire hydrant risk assessment when he assumed the Command in July, last year which proved that Kwabre East Municipal had no single fire hydrant.
The practice bequeathed to him then, was only to replenish from Mamponteng Community Water Works which most of the time had no water in the reservoir and again, mostly had to travel all the way from Mamponteng to Krofuom C.P.C in Kumasi and other locations to access water for firefighting.
The issue, he revealed prompted him to write to the Tafo-Pankrono outfit of Ghana Water Company Limited to help out.
