The Ashanti regional Chairman for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, is sounding a word of caution to the people of Kumawu not to vote for an independent candidate Kwaku Duah, since he is representing the interest of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the election.

Mr. Bernard Antwi-Boasiako alias Chairman Wontumi in an interview with an radio station based in Accra, stated that the NPP is working assiduously to ensure the Kumawu seat remains their seat following the death of the Philip Basoah.

Kwamawu is NPP’s seat and it will remain so. Both the national and regional executives of the NPP are working hard to make it remain a seat for the NPP”, Chairman Wontumi said.

During the 2020 parliamentary elections, the late Hon. Basoah polled 14,960 votes for the NPP against Kwaku Duah’s 11,698 as an independent candidate.

Speaking on what accounted for the surge in the independent candidate’s vote; Chairman Wontumi noted that Kumawu “experienced a lot of skirt and blouse votes in 2020 and that led to Kwaku Duah getting more votes.”

However, Chairman Wontumi revealed that the NPP failed to engage the services of Kwaku Duah because he (Duah) has made it known to them that he represents the interest of the NDC going into the 2024 elections.

As we speak right now, the NDC are encouraging him, LPG went to meet him and he told them that he has going to join the NDC…he has printed posters that look like he is a candidate for John Mahama”, he said.

The poster designs of Kwaku Duah are enough to spot his love for the NDC as Chairman Wontumi claims “he has gone to join the NDC. As at now even if you see his poster, you will realize that he has gone to meet Mahama”, he said.
