Kumasi Will Have Stable Power By 20th December -GRIDCo Officer
Ing Vincent Boakye, Director of Northern Network Services at Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) says residents in the Greater Kumasi Metropolis would have stable power to their homes by the 20th day of December.
Addressing an emergency press conference put together by the four units responsible for power generation and supply including the Energy Ministry, Ing Boakye said workers from GRIDCo were currently working on three transmission lines at Bogoso which were knocked off by a falling telecommunication mast on November 9, 2021.
This, he noted, has resulted in the erratic power supply and load management by the power companies.
He however assured that works on the transmission lines were envisaged to be completed in about three weeks time so that by the 20th of December residents would have stable and uninterrupted power for use.
‘’During peak periods the available transmission network cannot carry enough power to the country’s middle and northern parts including Kumasi’, Ing Boakye stated.
DETAILS:
The GRIDCo officer revealed that Kumasi and its environs normally consume 340 megawatts of power at peak periods.
This, he noted, presents a challenge to the outfit since it is unable to get this amount of power and hence the management in demand.
He stated that GRIDCo needs to manage the power supply to Kumasi and its environs so as to avoid a total transmission system failure.
‘’Reconstruction works have been expedited to reconstruct the fallen towers and restore the line to service to normalize the power situation in Kumasi by December 20, 2021 as other related works are going on across the gas supply chain to enhance and improve gas supply’’, In Boakye intimated.
ASSURANCE:
Managing Director (MD) at the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Kwame Agyeman-Budu has meanwhile assured residents that his outfit was ready to supply power to homes as soon as GRIDCo makes it available.
He however apologized for the inconvenience the pending challenge may have caused to residents in the Kumasi metropolis.
Mr Budu also asked residents to bear with the outfits as they collaborate to work to restore power supply to homes fully.
‘‘I am sure you would have power fully in your homes and work places by the deadline given so that together we can have life as normal as it used to be’’, the ECG MD assured.
