Kumasi High Court Remands KNUST Lecturer Over Wife’s Disappearance
The Kumasi High Court has remanded a senior lecturer of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Dr. Wilberforce Aggrey, into prison custody for his alleged involvement in the disappearance of his wife, Rhodaline Amoah-Darko, a staff of the Lands Commission.
This comes after the Asokwa District Court discharged him on Monday, and he was rearrested as new charges have been filed against him at the High Court.
The new charges against him include kidnapping and deception of a public officer.
The Kumasi High Court has also issued a bench warrant for the arrest of two persons; Yaw Boateng and Justice Appiah, for having in possession, Rhodaline Amoah-Darko’s phone.
Yaw Boateng has been charged with stealing, while Justice Appiah has been charged for dishonestly receiving an item after he bought the phone from the former.
During the court proceedings on Tuesday, counsel for the embattled KNUST lecturer prayed the court to grant his client bail, but the Attorney General’s representative handling the prosecution insisted that the accused will interfere with the case since some witnesses are his subordinates at the Department of Petroleum Engineering at KNUST, where he is the head.
The matter has been adjourned to 8th March 2022, as the Presiding Judge, Justice Daniel Obeng, has asked the representatives from the Attorney General’s Department to come up with all disclosures during the next hearing.
