THE HARDWORKING efforts of the Ashanti Regional Operations Team of the Dr. Alhaji Mahamadu Bawumia Campaign Team has yielded another positive results, after court cleared Mampong Constituency delegates to participate in the upcoming presidential primaries of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
A Kumasi High Court on Monday, October 30, 2023, ruled in favour of the party, represented by its Ashanti Regional Chairman, Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako aka Chairman Wontumi, in a petition filed in 2022 by one Kwabena Sarpong and 34 others, who were challenging their non-participation in the party’s polling station elections held in February, 2022.
The ruling therefore brings to an end two years of protracted dispute which almost denied the Mampong Constituency and its delegates the opportunity to exercise their franchise in the crucial upcoming presidential primaries.
It has also paved way for the Regional Elections Committee to organise the Constituency delegates Elections scheduled for this week to enable them participate in the Saturday’s primaries.
According to information however, members of the Ashanti Regional Operations Team of Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia are being praised for their tireless efforts in bringing closure to this matter and paving way for delegates in the Mampong Constituency to also participate in the elections.
The Team, which is led by the Honourable Member of Parliament for Effiduase Asokore, ably supported by the Aide to the Ashanti Regional Chairman, Andy Owusu, reportedly fought tooth and nail to ensure victory for the party.
In his ruling on Monday, Justice George Appah Kwabeng, said the plaintiffs were not entitled in the first place to the interlocutory injunction, as well as any of the reliefs sought in the original writ submitted before the court on February 25, 2022.
