Dr. Prosper Ogum Nartey, Head Coach of Asante Kotoko says his side will have to step up their performance in the second round if they are to emerge victors of the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League (GPL).
The Porcupine Warriors stretched their lead to seven points ahead of second-placed Bechem United after their goalless draw with arch-rivals Accra Hearts of Oak who are 12 points behind.
Speaking in a post-match presser, Dr. Nartey was content with the performance of his players but indicated that they could do more and expect more from them in the remaining matches.
“The first round is over, and I always tell my players you can never satisfy me.
“There is a lot with these young players I am working with but I believe they can do better so we have to step up our performance in the next 17 matches so that we stay at the top and don’t drop points,” he said.
Dr. Nartey asserted that Kotoko fans were expecting a win ahead of the game considering the peak of the team but was content with results at the end.
“We played a good game and we tried to go by our game model by circulating the ball and making sure that we create a lot of spaces and utilizing the chances we created.
“We showed in this game that gradually the team is getting better, especially playing a derby like this with six debutants, but I am impressed and happy about the performance of the team,”
Kotoko begins their second round with a game against Dreams FC at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium next Sunday.
