KNUST: Blame Hostel Managers Over Abnormal Increase In Hostel Prices- SRC President
The Student Representative Council (SRC) President at KNUST, Samuel Sesah, has blamed the abnormal increase of hostel prices to private hostel managers and off the school campus environs.
Speaking on ‘The Privilege Morning Show’ on Wontumi Radio/TV, Sesah said that, there have been several dialogues with private partnership to build hostel facilities in and off the campus.
He said that, the private hostel managers operate in a free market and they are business moguls so they have established the facilities to generate profits.
He bemoaned that, one hostel facility cost about Ghc11,000.
He said that, the students have noticed that, in the next years to come the hostel costs would be unbearable.
Sesah noted that, the hostel managers increase the fees due to the increase of tax payment and the salary they pay to their employees.
He said the engagement between the SRC and the leadership of the private hostel managers to address the concern has been fruitless.
According to the SRC President, he has been urging his colleagues to take their grievances to both current and sitting government for support.
Sesah appealed to the government to build residential facilities in the campus to ease their burdens.
