The Ashanti regional Chairman for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has described as absurd attempts by a US based Professor to act like he understands Ghana’s economy better than Finance Minister, Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta.
Mr. Bernard Antwi-Boasiako directly told Prof. Steve Hanke not to assume reading “outmoded” textbooks on economics makes him better than Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta who is a practical investment banker and knows the nitty-gritties of economics.
In an interview with Wontumionline.com, the NPP Chairman popularly known as Chairman Wontumi stated that Mr. Ofori-Atta has lost touch with reality on the performance of the Cedi as reported by Prof Hanke on twitter.
It would be recalled that at a briefing on September 28, the Finance Minister described other steps the central bank of Ghana was taking to calm the market, such as a Special Foreign Exchange Auction for Bulk Distribution Companies and a Gold Purchase Program.
“As part of measures to shore up our reserves, improve exchange rate stability and address some of the funding needs, the Ministry successfully worked on a US$750 million Afreximbank loan facility which was received in August 2022,” he explained.
