The majority leader in Parliament, Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu has opened up on how he was “tricked” by some of his own colleagues who staged the ‘Ken Must Go’ protest.
Speaking on Wontumi TV which was monitored by Wontumionline.com, the Member of Parliament for Suame, stated that he was taken by surprise by their action and would have talked them out of the protest if he was aware of it.
The over 80 New Patriotic Party(NPP) MPs also knew he would have stopped them from registering their protest and for that reason, Hon. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu stated that they planted an MP on him to ensure he doesn’t know the exact day and time they would be pushing for the ‘Ken Must Go’ agenda.
“It took me by surprise that the 80 MPs went to hold a press conference. When I called them the next day all of them had their phones turned off”, he said to highlight the plot by the MPs to hide the protest from him.
Hon. Andy Appiah-Kubi led a group of 80- plus MPs to call on President Akufo-Addo to replace Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta and the Minister of State at the Finance Ministry, Charles Adu Boahen.
But later, the Majority Caucus in Parliament issued a statement acceding to President Akufo-Addo’s demand for Minister of Finance, Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta, and the Minister of State at the Ministry of Finance, Mr. Charles Adu Boahen to conclude negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) before acting on their demand for the two to be removed from office.
