The Asokwa Municipal Directorate of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) in collaboration with Zoomlion and the Environmental Health Department have engaged residents of Kaase on the need to properly dispose off waste.
Residents were also taken through lessons on the effect of illegally encroaching on natural reserves and buffer zones in Kaase.
Addressing participants which included Chiefs and opinion leaders, Eric Nana Akosah, Asokwa Municipal Director of NADMO urged residents not to throw waste in water bodies.
He noted that the waste they dispose off in gutters and up blocking the drainage systems and makes it difficult fluids to flow when it rains and as a result causes floods in the community.

Speaking at the event in the stead of the Asokwa Municipal Chief Executive, Assistant Director at the Asokwa Municipal Assembly, Mr Samuel Nkansah Twum said it was important that waste was kept in the right manner.
He noted that the manner waste are disposed off has a bearing on how healthy the environment becomes.
The Deputy director said many areas that got flooded previously in Asokwa were due to indiscriminate disposal of waste as well as faecal matter in water bodies in communities in the Municipality.
He called on the public especially opinion leaders to serve as disaster prevention agents by ensuring the right things are done in their communities including the proper disposal of waste.
Borrowing from the theme for the durbar, the Deputy Director said a disaster free environment was a collective entreprise between authorities and residents of a particular community.

He noted that the sensitization engagement has been an eye opener.
Nana Owusu noted that the explanations and education clearly showed that floods have occurred in Asokwa because of how people have lived their lives and disposed off waste.
“I would on behalf of the Kaasehene promise to ensure that those who after this forum dispose off waste indiscriminately are arrested and punished so that it serves as a lesson to others who may be doing so secretly at Kaase”, the Krontihene stressed.
