The Ashanti Regional Chairman for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Bernard Antwi-Boasiako has branded former President John Mahama a “reckless” man in the way he handled the public purse.

The NPP Chairman popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, stated that things would have been worse in Ghana if COVID-19 had hit us with him (Mahama) as President.

Chairman Wontumi explained that Mr. Mahama deliberately created problems for Ghana and turned around to financially benefit from it when he was President.

“John Mahama created dumsor and turned around to make money from it. Dumsor hit only Ghana and wasn’t a global problem yet John Mahama put the economy of Ghana on autopilot and crushed it”, Chairman Wontumi said.

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, has reminded former President John Mahama about the role he played in supervising his younger brother to issue dud cheques after defrauding the state to the tune of GHC14 million.

Mr. Antwi-Boasiako popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, was reacting to the public lecturer by Mr. Mahama which was held at the auditorium of UPSA on Thursday.

Speaking to Wontumionline.com shortly after the event, Chairman Wontumi insisted Ghana’s economy was in a mess because Mr. Mahama used his political office to aide Ibrahim Mahama to issue 24 dud cheques which run the economy down.

“Ghana is in a mess because you chewed the meat and left us with the bone. We are in this mess because your brother didn’t pay back loans he collected from Ghanaian banks”, Chairman Wontumi said.

Ibrahim Mahama, a brother of Mr. John Mahama, was ordered by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to pay GHC12.7 million to the state.

The order came after he was investigated by EOCO over some dud cheques he is alleged to have issued to the Customs division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) at the Tema Port to clear some heavy duty equipment he imported.
