It’s ‘Barbaric’ to terminate appointments of Ghanaian youth – Old Tafo MP Jabs Mahama

The Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, Vincent Ekow Assafuah has strongly condemned the termination of appointments of Ghanaian youth by the Mahama administration, labeling it “barbaric”.

This comes after a letter from the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, directed all Heads of government institutions to nullify appointments made by the erstwhile Akufo-Addo administration after December 7, 2024.

In an interview with Wontumi TV, the MP argued that the affected youth were duly recruited by a properly constituted Ghanaian government and are now being dismissed without just cause.

According to him, it’s politically victimization and has vowed to fight for the rights of the affected youth, even taking the matter to court.

The MP emphasized that if the government is serious about job creation, it should focus on expanding opportunities rather than displacing workers.

He believes that sacking people and replacing them does nothing to reduce unemployment, only deepening economic hardship.

“For the president of the republic to direct the chief of staff to terminate all the appointments of persons recruited is barbaric, it’s illegal, it’s a sad in the democratic dispensation of Ghana. It has never happened before and no one should be deceived that it has happened in 2016”
