A legal practitioner who sympathizers with the New Patriotic Party (NPP), George Oppong, has expressed grief over the lies former President John Dramani Mahama tells about the emoluments he receives from the state.
Lawyer George Oppong believes age hasn’t impacted positively in the life of the former President despite being above 60 years.
Speaking on Wontumi TV following a comment by former President that he foots his own bills and pays salaries of his aides, Lawyer Oppong pointed out that it was a lie being told by the former President.
“We know Mahama and we know him from afar so we are not surprised by what he does. We only expected him to change his ways as he ages but it is unfortunate it hasn’t happened”, Lawyer George Oppong said.
Mr. Mahama has said he is willing to show his bank statements to the press noting that the only privileges he had received since leaving office was his monthly pension.
He also mentioned all the other payments he makes himself, including water, electricity, rent, fuel, medical and air tickets for travel.
“Later, if you want we can call a group of you journalists, of course, I don’t want to publish my bank statement but I can put it before you and you can look through all the payments and see if there is a 14 million cedi payment. I didn’t receive any such payment,” Mr. Mahama said.
Reacting to Mahama’s claims, Wontumi TV televised a Ghana government payment voucher for August 2022 on its screen which outlined salary payment details of 12 people believed to be staff of the former president.
Among those listed are Felix Kwakye Ofosu and Joyce Bawah Mogtari, senior aides to John Dramani Mahama and Wisdom Peter Awuku among others.
