Athletic Bilbao striker, Inaki Williams, has described his team’s 2-0 victory over Fenerbahçe as a significant achievement.
The Spanish club triumphed over the Turkish side on Wednesday night, with Williams scoring both goals in the 5th and 45th minutes.
The win secured Bilbao’s position at the top of the Europa League standings with 16 points, having won all their group matches so far.
After the match, Williams spoke about the challenge of playing in Turkey, expressing satisfaction with the result.
“The truth is that coming to Turkey and getting this result is very positive for us. We are happy that thousands of fans joined and we hope that you have enjoyed today…because it has been tough. It couldn’t work out better. I think that in the end, going 2-0 up always weakens the opposing team,” he said.
Williams also acknowledged the difficulty of the match, saying, “We knew that coming here to Turkey was going to be complicated. “I think the team has played a great game in general.”
With eight goals to his name across all competitions, Williams will be looking to maintain his strong form when Athletic Bilbao faces Alaves in La Liga on Sunday.
