Inaki Williams led Athletic Club to a 2-0 victory over AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League on Thursday night, scoring the opening goal and inspiring his team’s triumph.
The Ghana forward started for Athletic in their second group stage match at San Mamés.
After a scoreless first half, Williams broke the deadlock in the 72nd minute with a goal assisted by his younger brother, Nico Williams.
Inaki Williams was a constant threat throughout the match, playing the full 90 minutes.
Nico Williams later provided another assist in the 85th minute, setting up Oihan Sancet to seal the win for Athletic.
This victory moves Athletic Club to 12th in their Europa League group standings. The team will rely on the Williams brothers to continue delivering strong performances as they aim to progress to the knockout stages.
Inaki Williams will look to maintain his scoring form when Athletic visit Girona in La Liga on Sunday.
He’s also expected to be called up for Ghana’s squad in the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Sudan.
