In-Camera Waiver: Why Do You Want To Conduct CJ’s Proceedings In Darkness? Godfred Yeboah Dame
After deliberately using the media to trail, prosecute and pronounce Her Ladyship Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo guilty over wrongs she hasn’t committed, it is only fair to hear her out in open court and not in-camera, lawyer Godfred Yeboah Dame has said.
Lawyer Godfred Yeboah Dame, stated that this is the first time that a Chief Justice has been removed from office and for that reason, the trail should be held in open court.
“This is the first time a CJ has been removed from office, it has never happened before”, he said in an interview with Kwaku Dawuro on Movement TV.
Speaking on the cases brought against the CJ for her removal, Godfred Dame said “they want to remove her from office because they say she used government money to travel and shouted on a policeman”.
He went on to state that “that policeman’s case was in public, so what is it? They say there is another case and she transferred a judge, all those cases were in public”.
All the above cases according to him were held in public. He therefore stated that it doesn’t make it proper to hear the side of the CJ in-camera.
“I wonder what somebody would have against it. We say we want light, you say you want darkness, why do you want to conduct the proceedings in darkness?”
Throughout the history of Ghana, lawyer Dame explained that all attempts to remove the Chief Justice from office have been culled by the Supreme Court with the exception of Her Ladyship Torkornoo’s case.
“Anytime in the history of this nation that an attempt has been made to remove the CJ, the Supreme Court will intervene and say it is unconstitutional”.
“If it is the first time the whole nation is being confronted with such development, it is only fair the process is made public”, he said.
