Immigration Service Repatriates 925 Undocumented Migrants
The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has repatriated 925 undocumented migrants following a recent operation in Accra.
The repatriation process began on Saturday, May 17, 2025.
This follows a successful round-up of these migrants, most of whom were engaged in street begging, in a swoop on Friday, May 16, 2025.
In a statement, GIS confirmed that 819 Nigeriens and 106 Nigerians have been returned to their home countries.
“Repatriation was initiated on the morning of Saturday, 17th May, 2025. At the time of this release, 925 persons have been successfully repatriated, and processes are underway to remove the rest,” the statement read in part.
The Service explained that all affected immigrants went through profiling and security screening in line with Standard Operating Procedures.
The GIS announced that further efforts are ongoing to remove the remaining undocumented migrants picked up during the exercise.
While in detention, GIS has assured that they are being provided with meals, with medical services on standby where necessary.
