I’m In Support Of Making Our Local Dialect An Official Language- Hon Clement Wilkinson Reacts

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Honorable Clement Wilkinson, has said that he is in support of the the Speaker of Parliament’s suggestion of making a Ghanaian language official.

Speaking in an interview with Kwaku Dawuro, on Movement In The Morning show, on Movement TV/Wontumi radio, Hon Clement emphasised on the disadvantage foreign languages have on the Ghanaian society, and advised the Speaker of Parliament to implement the initiative of using one of the Ghanaian languages as an official language.

”I agree with him because when you go to diamond fields, the language they use is English and when they meet you speaking Twi, they tend to think you’re plotting something bad against them because Language is key to every society. Again when people talk about the special prosecutor and the media houses take it up and talk about it in English, how will our mothers in the village understand and know the truth of the matter.

When we go for our campaigns we use our local dialect but I use English during my speech after winning elections so I’m in support,” he said this in response to his thoughts regarding Speaker of Parliament’s suggestion to use Ghanaian language as an official language.
